My name is Sandra Leefmans and I am webdesigner for Rootz Gallery. My career is best characterized by the saying “Jack of all trades, master of none”. As I have had many different jobs in different fields. Originally I am a cultural anthropologist and a social skills teacher. I have been a career coach and gifted education trainer. In recent years, however, I have had to become proficient in web design as I was selfemployed. The more I did this kind of work the more I enjoyed it. Recently I’ve desided to have another career switch and focus on web design and web development.
When I am at the office I always imagine myself in a museum. So many objects from all parts of the world… I’ve always felt a citizen of the world. At the age of 12 I had lived in three countries. I was born in Surinam and my ancestors are Polish-Jewish, Portuguese-Jewish, Chinese, African, Scottish and Dutch. My Surinamese family has collected several Maroon woodcarvings and ceramics from indigenous people in Surinam. I am happy to be able to surround myself with some of these precious items at home. A nice example of why this job is so interesting is to notice – the moment I first saw these – that the stools from Ghana at Roots Gallery have such a direct link with the Surinamese Maroon stools.
