Lake Sentani small Tapa | Boombast doek uit West-Papua

Mooie kleine Tapa, boombast schildering van het Asei eiland in het Sentani-meer van West-Papua. Boombast schildering uit Asei, Sentani-meer. Kulit Kayu (letterlijk boomhuid) is een stuk ‘doek’ gemaakt van een vel boombast dat tot doek wordt geklopt en vervolgens beschilderd. In de lokale taal worden de vezelrijke boombastdoeken ‘maro’ of ‘tapa’ genoemd. Tapa doeken worden in Asei gemaakt, een van de eilanden in het Sentani-meer, dat ca. 30 km ten westen van de hoofdstand Jayapura ligt.

Kulit Kayu (literally tree skin) is a piece of ‘cloth’ made from a sheet of barkcloth that is whipped into cloth and then painted. In the local language, the fiber-rich barkcloths are called ‘maro’ or ‘tapa’. Tapa cloths are made in Asei, one of the islands in Lake Sentani, which is about 30 km west of Jayapura.
