The Day of the Dead is a holiday and commemoration day that is celebrated every year on November 1 and 2. The Day of the Dead 'Dia de Los Muertos' originated from the traditions of the Mesoamerican Indian peoples. For the Aztecs and the Mayans, among others, it has always been a ritual to honor the dead. This was initially celebrated in augustusada, but after the Spanish made their entrance, the Day of the Dead was moved to the Catholic holidays All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day and celebrated by both the Catholics and the indigenous population. In Mexico, they believe that the dead visit them every year at the same time and then feel reunited with their deceased loved ones. People do everything they can to make it a big and loving celebration every year. The Mexicans commemorate deceased family members and friends with food and with items that the deceased would have liked to have around them when they were still alive.
