This authentic Hampatong statue is a beautiful example of the traditional woodcarving art of the Dayak tribes of Borneo. Hampatongs are associated with ancestor worship and serve as spiritual protectors against negative influences in villages and homes. They are often placed at entrances to ensure the well-being of the inhabitants.
This statue is in fair condition considering its age and origin. There are some cracks visible, including one in the arm. The right arm is missing and the feet are partly worn away, indicating long-term use and wear over the years. See the photos for a detailed view of the current condition.
