The Ikorodo mask is also called Agbogho mmwo or the girl spirit mask. It is used by the Igbo in the Nsukka region in southern Nigeria during ceremonies. The masks are worn on top of the head by men and are meant to celebrate and honor female beauty. In addition, the masks are sometimes worn during harvest festivals.
The masks are recognizable by their elaborate and complex hairstyles. In this mask, there is even a bird visible on the hair. On the cheeks, the mask often contains markings such as scarification or tattoos.
