In Europe and other Western countries, the Laughing Buddha is seen as Gautama Siddhartha, the original Buddha from India. However, the truth is a little different: the Laughing Buddha was a Buddhist Zen monk who lived thousands of years ago in China. His name was Quieci and was known as the kind and loving one. Quieci was different from most monks. According to legend, his fellow monks praised him for his hearty laugh. That is why he was nicknamed the Laughing Buddha.
