Rama, also known as Ram or Ramachandra (Sanskrit: राम), is an important deity in Hinduism. He is the seventh avatar of the god Vishnu and, along with Krishna and Gautama Buddha, one of Vishnu's most popular incarnations. In the Rama-oriented traditions of Hinduism, he is regarded as the Supreme Being.

Rama was born to Kaushalya and Dasaratha in Ayodhya, the ruler of the kingdom of Kosala. His siblings are Lakshmana, Bharata and Satrughna. He married Sita. Although they were born into a royal family, Hindu texts describe their lives as challenged by unexpected changes, such as exile to impoverished and difficult circumstances, ethical questions and moral dilemmas.
