Ikorodo helmet mask
The Ikorodo mask is also known as Agbogho mmwo or the maiden-spirit mask. It is used by the Igbo in the Nsukka region of southern Nigeria in ceremonies. The masks are then worn on top of the head by men and are meant to celebrate and honor female beauty. In addition, the masks are sometimes worn at harvest festivals.
The masks can be recognized by the elaborate and complex hair styles. In this mask, there is even a bird visible on the hair. On the cheeks, the mask often contains markings such as scarification or tattoos.
Ikorodo helmmasker
Het Ikorodo masker wordt ook wel Agbogho mmwo of het meisjesgeesten masker genoemd. Het wordt door de Igbo in de Nsukka regio in zuid-Nigeria gebruikt bij ceremonies. De maskers worden dan bovenop het hoofd gedragen door mannen en zijn bedoeld om de vrouwelijke schoonheid te vieren en eren. Daarnaast worden de maskers soms op oogstfeesten gedragen.
De maskers zijn te herkennen aan de uitgebreide en complexe haarstijlen. Bij dit masker is er zelfs een vogel zichtbaar op het haar. Op de wangen bevat het masker vaak markeringen zoals scarificatie of tatoeages.
