Hornbill plank mask (‘Loniake’)
The Toussian (or Tussian) people from the southwestern part of Burkina Faso use such masks in initiation ceremonies.
The name of the mask is hornbird mask because it is shaped like a stylized bird and contains two hornbird heads at the top.
During the ceremony, the entire body is covered and the mask is worn. The wearer then tries to imitate the animal as best they can through movement and sound.
This item is offered without a mask stand.
Hoornvogel plankmasker (‘Loniake’)
Het Toussian (of Tussian) volk uit zuidwest Burkina Faso gebruikt dergelijke maskers bij inwijdingsrituelen.
De naam van het masker is hoornvogel masker, omdat het de vorm heeft van een gestileerde vogel en twee hoornvogel koppen bevat aan de bovenkant.
Tijdens de ceremonie wordt het hele lichaam bedekt en het masker gedragen. De drager probeert dan zo goed mogelijk het dier te imiteren door beweging en geluid.
Dit object wordt aangeboden zonder maskerstandaard.
